Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow. - Imogen Cunningham
Put simply, this is a repository for a sampling of images from my most recent photo shoot. They are placed here before being moved to the appropriate gallery. These will change from time to time, so keep checking to see what’s new.
This set of images is from two separate excursions - to Northern Arizona/Southern Utah in the spring, and to Crested Butte Colorado in the fall. I enjoy evaluating new locations and Northern Arizona, specifically Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly, were a first time visit. Monument Valley lived up to expectation, the enormous buttes and sand stone formations are impressive when seen in person. We hired a Navajo guide to drive us to areas of the monument not accessible to the general public. If you want to get a feel for all Monument Valley has to offer I would recommend hiring a guide. If you are a photographer I recommend hiring a guide that offers photo-specific tours, the general tours do not cater to the needs of a landscape photographer.
Canyon de Chelly (pronounced de SHAY) did not disappoint, indeed it is a very impressive canyon, notably on the east end where the rim is approximately 1,000 feet above the canyon floor. The towering Spider Rock formation (750 feet) is worth the trip, and were were blessed with a departing storm and a rainbow to enhance the experience. I found the southern rim drive to be better for photography, especially in the late afternoon.
We also worked in a stop at National Bridges National Monument, a site I enjoy for the enormous natural bridges. Photographs don’t really communicate how massive they are.
Crested Butte was my choice for capturing fall color, and is a location that never disappoints in late September. A little snow on the peaks would have been ideal for photography, but otherwise conditions were nearly perfect.
